Kitty, unaware of any special rocks- which was for the best considering between a dead parent, all her best friends dying and coming back, and doing the same herself, she had a weird relationship with death- was having a normal one at the bar.

Meaning Tino was doing "karaoke" with the band, which was really just him doing extended air guitar riffs on jam band songs.

Yeah. Yeeeeeah.

“Today,” Sam said sternly, “i have found an educational film for us to watch about the dangers of being Weird.”

That was not at all what this movie was about.

“It is a biographical story of one man's descent into weirdness!”

That was closer, at least.

“Pay attention! There may be a test!”

There would not be a test and Sam really should have been paying more attention himself.

"Right," Yennefer said to her class. "Let's talk about technology. You from the future, you're just going to have to figure out how to reverse this on your own time. If you're coming from a time that's just about got the hang of the water mill, or is more reliant on magic that not everyone has, the technology of this world is a boon. Hot water from a tap, flush toilets, hair dryers, don't even get me started on the phones, that will be a whole separate lesson...and then you go home and you have none of that. How can you cope? Yes, you can learn how your favorite bits are done and become a genius inventor, and yes, that may have knock-on effects you couldn't have anticipated for the rest of your society, but who cares when you're nice and comfortable and not dealing with a chamber pot? But also, that sounds like a lot of effort." And if you were a woman a man would probably steal the credit. "So, what are you to do? Merely suffer? I should hope not. But I am interested to hear what ideas you may have, and what your favorite piece of technology available in your more advanced time is. Discuss."

Another week another spread of pastries on one table and books on another. Honestly, Aphra didn't know why she hadn't thought of this before, it was the easiest class ever.

There was also a rickety looking projector that they'd dragged out of somewhere.

"Today we're looking at what can happen if a book gets popular enough," Aphra told the class. "An adaptation."

"The film of the book, as they say," Isabela added, in case none of them were familiar with the concept.

"And for demonstration purposes, we've got a " Aphra, that was a sequel of a remake, not an adaptation.

He'd been dozing off. Just a very late afternoon nap.

The annoying thing about being the offspring of an angel and a demon was that you were kinda tapped into things against your will. And so sometimes the tiniest sliver of some weird ethereal energy showing up at your old high school would just-- worm its way into your head. And if you knew what it was about, well--

There you were. Napless, with your hands shoved into the pockets of your long red leather coat, ordering a strawberry sundae at Chilly Boulder like you hadn't been avoiding this place for years.

"With extra strawberries?" Dante tried.

The lady behind the counter eyed him. "We remember you," she said. "You'll order seconds."

He sighed. "Fine, if you're gonna be like that," he said. "Fuck capitalism."

In the woods stood a rock. An unassuming rock, about half an average man's height, grey and covered in moss and life--

Until the sun sank down below the horizon on Monday night, and the clock struck midnight. The vegetation crumbled away. Snails hurried into the grass beyond. Little veins of light spidered across its surface.

And it began to sing.

If you dream them, they will come.

Still a whisper. It would be louder, later. But that whisper called across the island, across space, and touched upon the dreamers.

If you dream them, they will come...

Back to the beach! There was a grill out, and a table full of food and toppings so you could hazard sons guesses here.

"We're cooking today," Kitty announced. "We're going to go over how to work the grill, and at the end we'll talk about cleaning it and why you shouldn't use those wide brushes, and between that, we eat. I've got burgers, hot dogs, veggie burgers and vegetables, a bunch of toppings, and chips and things. Not that you'll probably be hungry by then since everyone will get a turn cooking."

"Welcome," Hannibal greeted them. "There are many other excellent restaurants in South America, but I thought we'd try a different continent today."

He led them through the portal to Gaggan.

"Bangkok, Thailand," he explained. "Chef Gaggan Anand hails from India, and the food here blends Indian and Thai spices, as well as what is said to be quite an experience. He wanted to create a fine dining restaurant that was distinctly non-Western and removed from what is normally thought of as haute cuisine. Let us see how he's done."

Jon had handwavily advised everybody to wear warm-weather clothes and be prepared to swim if they were so inclined. He met them at Portalocity with a large box that contained assorted moddable hats and wraps, towels, and enough tubes of sunscreen for everybody to have two.

"When you're out on the water, you often end up burned despite your best efforts, so everybody please be careful and wear enough of this." He was an Englishman who grew up in a beach town. He knew the benefits of not burning!

"This weekend, a lot of places will be celebrating Pride, which is a way of acknowledging that people of different sexualities and gender identities are all worthy of being people, which is somehow still a radical idea for some." Because people were idiots.

The portal opened to someplace very sunny. "We'll be visiting Key West Pride today. Key West is the southernmost point of the continental United States. It began as a place of the rich and conversely, scavengers. Because some rich people are bad at sailing. It largely thrives on tourism these days, and declared its independence from the US when the government interfered with that in an effort to keep people from entering the country illegally. Apparently, they threw bread at the Coast Guard."

Why bread? Who knew!

"Anyway, it's a rather...er...laid-back place, I suppose you'd say." Look, when your two most famous residents were Jimmy Buffet and Ernest Hemingway, you got a reputation. Largely for booze.

"We'll be going on a boat trip. There will be lunch, drinks for anyone old enough, and swimming if you're able and so inclined." And a costume contest if you wanted to get dressed up.

Jon mentally reviewed what he'd needed to tell them, then nodded and headed through the portal. Possibly with a muttered, Call me boring.

Tony and Steve had two giant wheelbarrows between them filled with balloons.

"We thought: what is the opposite of being able to use special powers?" Steve asked, "And came up with balloons filled with paint."

"Grenades!" Tony said cheerfully. "Paint grenades. It'll be great."

Someone would accidentally squeeze one too hard and immediately be out of the running.

And it would be hilarious.

"Suit up!"

There were a set of dice at work stations for every student when they arrived today. Blank and waiting for paint! Because this was a goddamn arts and crafts class, okay? The teachers got that part right!

"So, we did your characters last week. Today we're doing dice," Jane said. "Which are apparently something people collect, so this will be a personalized set for you."

"Apparently there's a risk you'll turn into some kind of goblin." That wasn't what that meant, Cara. "Try to avoid getting into fights with the gremlins if you do."

"...oh, I hadn't thought of that." Jane was now going to be paranoid about this.

It didn't help that Cara was from somewhere something like that might actually happen. "That's why I'm here, to bring up potential problems."

She was a giver like that!

"How about we get painting?"

And not turning into literal (as opposed to figurative) dice goblins!

So, it had been...a while since Mariner had remembered to show up for her shift, but give her a break, it was a lot easier to keep track of time on a starship than a planet, and dabbling in capitalism was less of a motivator. Go fig.

Apparently the Starbucks gremlin had really missed her though. It enthusiastically threw itself at her and made a number of very cheerful gremlin noises at her as it walked with her to the workshop.

Where Mariner discovered that the coffee cup she'd forgot to rinse after her last shift had apparently been thriving in her absence. The gremlin waved at the coffee mass, grinned toothily, and slammed the door behind her.

"Oh, crap."

The station cat was up to mischief today, hopping up on to the Trooper's desks and knocking random things to the floor with her paws.

The Troopers weren't thrilled about it, shockingly. Watts, on the other hand, was privately amused. While she'd wandered in to his office at some point to demand pets, his desk had avoided getting the same treatment. So far.

Class today met in an empty Danger Shop. Not even anywhere to sit -- Constantine was going to be keeping people on their toes.

"Let's talk about our second favorite part of grief - anger," John said with annoying cheer once everyone had assembled. "Because once we stop trying to rewrite reality, it's easier to be angry with everyone and everything than let yourself feel anything else."

"We've all thought it - why me? Why them? I want revenge, someone needs to pay, fuck God, fuck the universe, it's my fault, it's their fault... you know the chorus, because you've probably sung it at least once. Some people get short-tempered and unstable, lashing out, while others go ice cold. Some get verbally snappy while others turn that rage inward."

"It's the destructive cycle of thoughts and outcomes: thoughts lead to feelings, feelings lead to behaviors, and behaviors circle back to our thoughts."

"So, how do you yank yourself out of that, to get going towards something 'healthier?'" Yes, he did the air quotes. "The pros talk a big game about recognizing the underlying feelings, not lying to yourself about it. Doing shite like meditation and yoga. Art. Poetry. Journaling. Stuff where you don't have to talk, you just do. Hell, they suggest thinking about it from someone else's point of view, but that seems fucked-up to me - then you're just feeling shit for two people, not just yourself."

"The thing about anger, is that it can be calming, in a fucked-up kind of way. That rage can burn everything else away, and let you feel like you're thinking clearly." John shrugged, his hands in his pockets. "You aren't, but it can feel like it."

"Spill. When you feel the anger rising, do you try to break the cycle? How? Does it actually work, or are you just going through the motions to feel better about yourself?"

Belle was here in the library for what felt like the first time in ages. Maybe it was. Anyway, she was here now and the library itself seemed to be rather festive. Not because Belle was there but because it was June.

There were rainbow signs and books arranged in rainbow piles. There was plenty of informational non-fiction to be found and the romance section was nearly bursting at the seams.

The Fandom Library was ready for Pride. Or at least it was getting there. It could always do more.

“I’m sorry I wasn’t here last week,” Stark said once it looked like everyone had arrived at the Danger Shop that was once again a movie theater for the moment. “I’ll try not to let it happen again.” But there were never guarantees. Ever.

“Today’s movie is about a boat! Boats seemed like a summery thing. Good for vacations.”

Stark had not seen the movie yet, no.

“This one has a cruise ship and a smaller boat and the two meet and…” he frowned. “Monsters? That’s fine. It might still be fun! And I have boat themed snacks for today! But not monster ones. I’m not sure what I’d do for monster snacks, actually. But for boats there are Life Savers that are hard and gummy ones. And there are goldfish crackers. And popcorn, of course, because there should always be popcorn. And salted caramels because sea water is salty.” It made sense to him. “And popcorn and sodas of course.”

Of course.

“Enjoy the movie?”

"So, I know I brought up the Planeswalker War last week, but I've decided that it's entirely too stupid to talk about," Liliana announced from where she was lounging behind her desk. "Honestly, it will just be a bunch of names - even moreso than usual - fighting over even stupider things than usual. One group of people wanted power, another group of people didn't like each other, a third group was trying to play peacemaker of course they were white and green mages, this was back before Magic's color wheel had anything even approaching depth, and in the end, Leshrac - mustache-twirling villain, even sans mustache - ended up ringing the Grey Chime. The Grey Chime was something of the poor man's Apocalypse Chime--" which had also gotten rung and yes, by a Planeswalker, but hey! Not on Dominaria! "--and destroyed most of Corondor, annihilating three major cities, Shikar, Telemar, and Hamath, and staining the sky above the continent eerie colors."

Sure, it had involved magical beacon that had lured a bunch of Planeswalkers into one place and wouldn't let them leave, but when would THAT ever become relevant again? )

"That rift was called the Yavimayan Rift, as it had been located in Yavimaya, a great forest on what remains of Terisiare, after the Blast turned an entire continent into an archipelago. And, somewhat surprisingly, it was not the first rift to be formed. That honor belongs to the Madaran Rift." Liliana pulled out a large map of Dominaria, pointing to a small island off the western coast of Jamuraa, the southernmost continent. "Stop me if you heard this one," she continued wryly, "But Madara also used to be a continent. It was, in fact, where Nicol Bolas had his empire, back during Mythohistory. Unlike Ugin," and some other Planeswalkers who won't be named, "Bolas didn't just leave Dominaria once his spark ignited and never returned. He had power and dominion here, especially after unlocking powers that dwarfed even those of the other Elder dragons." Did Liliana sound wistful there? Nah, surely not. "Madara was the scene of the very first duel between Planeswalkers, some fifteen thousand years ago. Nicol Bolas and an unnamed demonic leviathan fought to the death. The stories that remain of that battle are sketchy at best, save that it took days, the seas went mad, storms rent the skies, and a third of Madara was utterly destroyed. Whatever spell took out a third of a continents also tore open reality and created the first rift."

Planeswalkers and wrecking reality, the peanut butter and jelly of Magic history.
