Classes had finished. Now there was little for Liara to do but go through the last few books the library had remaining to her.

They didn't hold much draw to her, being fiction-- the human experience held only so much interest for her. Especially considering their odd fascination with... human males with their shirts off. Yes. That was quite odd. After an hour of squinting at the book, she cast it aside, onto her nightstand.

"I need a new hobby," she muttered wryly to herself.

"This is a plant that is supposed to make you kiss."

She sounded as dubious as she did amused in spite of herself.

"Well, it's just a silly tradition."

Although Karolina wouldn't put it past the islan to just force kissing on people...

"May I test a scientific hypothesis...?" Liara asked, after thinking on it for a moment.

"... Yeah?"

She might've sounded a little more into it and a little less confused if she'd gotten what Liara was getting at.

That would've been more awkward had Liara not been mostly honest about the fact it was a scientific hypothesis. She was only starting to figure out how teasing worked, here, and she was definitely not going to attempt to apply that while dealing with foilage stuck to her back.

Which would also explain why, when she tilted her head up to kiss Karolina, she appeared to be going for that nebulous space between 'cheek' and 'lips'.

Which, yes, made Karolina kind of go 'wait, what?' For a second. Before instinct took over and she tilted her head a bit more.

So. It was maybe more lips than that nebulous space next to it.

... That was all right. Too.

If unexpected.

Liara made a soft, surprised noise, then went with it, tilting her head to make the angle less awkward.

Okay, hey, they were doing this. Karolina... Karolina had no objections to that.

So maybe her heartrate had just picked up but at least she'd kissed people before. It came pretty naturally, once she silenced most of her nerves.

Liara forgot all about the mistletoe - even as it dropped off her back onto the sheets - and slid one arm around Karolina's shoulders to steady herself.

Because she suddenly really needed steadying.

Karolina was very steady! Well, mostly. Steady enough. She just liked the arm around her shoulders, okay?

And she put her own hand on Liara's knee. For extra steadying. As you do.

In some ways, the hand on Liara's knee actually accomplished the opposite. It didn't make her feel very steady.

She pulled away a... fraction of a millimeter a moment later, finding she had accidentally closed her eyes sometime into the--

"That was very nice," she babbled.

Babbling was the best option here.

"Uh... Yeah."

Failing to find good words to babble was acceptable as well.

A short pause.

"We should do that again," Liara ventured.

"That ––"

Words, Kar. Use words.

"I would definitely like that. Yeah."

At least she chuckled softly at herself.

Hopefully not for too long, as Liara moved in to do it again.

Clumsily, but still, the target was much clearer this time.

No, Karolina was safely done with her chuckling by the time kissing time was upon them again.

And yeah, there were some nerves there too, and tentative moves, but on the whole, it really wasn't bad.

Liara sighed softly.

She was still a bit tense - uncertainty about one's actions would do that to you - but she was also enjoying herself much more than she'd anticipated.

She slid even closer to Karolina without even realizing it.

Karolina took that as opportunity to slide her arm around Liara's waist. For that steadying thing. Although, really, mostly for the 'really just felt like doing it' thing, if she was entirely honest.

She thought that might be allowed.

Liara made a quiet little noise and arched into her.

Definitely allowed. Extraordinarily so.

And that was definitely encouraging! So, encouraged, Karolina also lightly rubbed her back. Since it was there.

Everything here was a bit tentative but it was also very nice.

It was at this point Liara realized her arm hung awkwardly across Karolina's shoulders. Her hand flailed about even more awkwardly for several seconds before she finally managed to settle it on the back of Karolina's head.

... and suddenly she was thinking about what she was doing. Goddess. Not a good sign.

Thinking wasn't really something Karolina was doing much. Which was probably good, because she could feel her heart beating somewhere up near her throat.

But she pulled back less than an inch, because she needed to catch a breath or two.

Liara dropped her hand back down to Karolina's... general back area and smiled at her sheepishly. "Ah," she attempted. "I hope I didn't... mess up your hair."
