Liara had originally intended to come home simply because classes were no longer in session and she hadn't seen her mother in several months. But mother was mother, and within a few days the first social engagement had come, and then the second, and then the third.
She was exhausted. She was not comfortable in great crowds, let alone with people who were trying to get a foot in the door with her mother by talking to her. And yet that was all the last few weeks had been-- the few days when there wasn't somewhere to be or someone to talk to, she'd been so exhausted she'd just collapsed.
But now Liara had breathing room, and... she was a week late to return to Fandom. "Goddess," she muttered, rubbing her forehead. This would mean more talking to people - the administration, especially. Perhaps if she tried hard enough, they would be willing to readmit her? Not that the classes were all that educational, but the one friend who didn't leave her exhausted was there, as was large amounts of peace and quiet far away from Benezia's life.
Speaking of which... she should call Yeul. Had it been weeks since they last spoke? She couldn't help but feel a little resentment towards her mother about it.
She grabbed her Earth phone and hit the one number she had on speed dial, and let it ring.
And ring.
And ring.
Eventually, the sound stopped. She frowned, and hit the number again.
Again, no one answered.
Perhaps Yeul had forgotten her phone? She did tend to float through life; it wasn't impossible.
But successive attempts throughout the day didn't work, either. Anxiety crawled into Liara's stomach, which grew worse with every failed attempt. By the time night fell, it had turned into a beast in her belly-- a beast that might easily become something else entirely.
